Cheshire wedding photographer

relaxed, natural & elegant documentary style

Hi & welcome!

Whether you choose a wedding close to my Cheshire home in the North West, just down the road in Manchester, elsewhere in the UK or a destination abroad, I’ll travel with you to produce a beautiful set of documentary photographs for your wedding. Throughout my time as a photographer, I’ve had one important rule: no stuffy photos!

I’ve been photographing Cheshire weddings for over a decade now and am very knowledgeable about many of the popular local venues including Peckforton Castle, Inglewood Manor, Rookery Hall, Heaton House Farm, Thornton Manor, Sandhole Oak Barn, Crewe Hall and Mottram Hall.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I’m Phil. As you can see above, I’ve been photographing weddings for waaay over a decade now. It’s been incredibly good fun hanging out with couples and their friends and family for all of that time.

I’m a really relaxed person and hope you are too. On a wedding day, all sorts of things happen, but I’ll always have a smile on my face and a calming word. I’ve been through this a lot and if I have some advice it’s this; by the time your wedding day comes, just relax and enjoy it. You’ve put you trust in experienced suppliers to know what they’re doing. If little things don’t go to plan, that’s OK! No one knew what you’d planned anyway.

I love humour and emotion, and you’ll find both in my photography. It’s amusing to remember the “Doh!” moment of the groom when he’s being roasted by the best man, and it’s a tear-jerker to see the father of the bride as he sees his daughter dressed for the first time.

Over the years wedding photography has taken my nationwide. I’ve photographed in a bunch of countries abroad and am regularly in London, Scotland, Wales and anywhere else someone wants me to go. But Cheshire is my home and at least 50% of my weddings are close by, or in Liverpool or Manchester.

If you’re a relaxed couple who want to have a fun day with someone who will be more than just your wedding photographer – but a friend too – I’d love to chat more.

"most outstanding wedding photographer - cheshire"

Over the years I’ve been lucky to have photographed in amazing locations and worked with fantastic people. It’s amazing when this is recognised, and I was incredibly happy to be awarded Most Outstanding Wedding Photographer – Cheshire in 2018 by LUX magazine. I’ve also been awarded National Photographer of the Year by the Guild of Wedding Photographers.

My photographs have also been included in all of the major wedding blogs, like Rock My Wedding, Brides Up North and Love My Dress.

MOMENTS THAT MATTER

Most of my day at a wedding isn’t spent on the formal or couple photographs, but finding the stories that matter to you.

This style of photography is called candid, reportage or documentary photography.

I realised as soon as I started wedding photography that the love people share, the humour they find and the glances are where the stories live. People you’ve known for 20 or 30 years connect with each other in this way.

So, finding the moments when dad tears up, or when an aunt expresses her utter joy with a huge hug, are the key for me.

And it’s a real pleasure to share these with you.

relaxed posing

Couples do get a little nervous when they hear the word “posing”.

Immediately it seems to bring about thoughts of americas top model, and whether they’ll need to duplicate a fashion shoot, or on the other end of the scale photos that look like they’re from the 50’s, with a stiff upper lip.

Nothing could be further from the truth with me. I learned in my fashion photography days that it’s important to let people be who they are. Yes, I’ll make a few suggestions and yes they’ll look good for you, but couples really just want to enjoy their photography without too much fuss.

And I’m pleased to say that they do! Most couples say it was their favourite part of the day, and that includes the really incredibly shy ones too.
